Catherine Lewis, Ph.D.

Dr. Lewis is the Director of the NIGMS Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics where she manages research programs in the fields of single-molecule biophysics, nanoscience, and the biophysical properties of nucleic acids and protein-nucleic acid assemblies. She has been instrumental in launching the Institute’s research program in the development of technology for cellular imaging. Prior to joining NIGMS, Dr. Lewis carried out research on chromosome structure and the regulation of gene expression in the physical chemistry section of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
